Selecting a Contractor

Question: How many roofs will you purchase in your lifetime? One? Two? Three? Let’s face it, your roof protects your home and all of its contents every day of every year 24 hour a day. Shouldn’t you take some time to select your roofing contractor carefully? Shouldn’t you select someone who will be there next year? Shouldn’t you select one who has the manufacturer’s approval?

Here are few guidelines to follow in your selection of a Roofing Contractor/Company:

1.      Make sure your contractor is licensed, bonded, and insured, and that their workers are covered by Workman’s Compensation and that they can show proof.

2.      Request a list of references in your area, complete with contact names and telephone numbers. If the Contractor is of his word he will gladly give you several.

3.      Verify that your Contractor is approved by the material manufacturer you have chosen.

4.      Check to see if your Contractor is in good standings with the local building department. Building departments will not mislead you: they will be very direct on who is and who is not a reputable Contractor.
